Re[en]Vision Workshop
And Summer Stuff!
Are you struggling with a rewrite? Whether you have a piece of a larger work that is just not working or a dusty draft begging to be brought back to life, this short class is for you.
Re[en]Vision
Bring your scene, essay, short story, log-line, script opening, query letter or poem to this three-session class offering eyes and expertise on your literary “problem children” as well as tools for rewriting anything, of any genre.
This intimate masterclass covers:
viewing work through a macro lens (structure, pacing, patterns)
revising on a micro level (diction, sentence crafting, line-work, titles)
decision-making & tools of disruption
It can help if you:
have an editor waiting on a rewrite
wrote a story that has been rejected multiple times
want to get out of the slush pile
need to return to a story you once loved
have been avoiding a certain rough draft
know your pitch/query letter could be better
plan on submitting to a dream publication
want to be a better reviser
No homework of reading classmates’ work in between—just you tinkering, with guidance, watching live edits and coming back for more tried-and-true ways to build your revision skills, plus—accountability.
I will also share one of my own essays, showing revisions along with editorial, copyedit and fact-check notes given before the piece was published. We’ll discuss changes made at each revision stage in a close reading.

Other summer news:
In person, I’ll be leading a one-day generative writing seminar called [B]rainstorm Beneath the Clouds inside of Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds exhibit at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC. You don’t have to know anything about writing to participate. Just bring a journal or laptop and come write with me in this special space.
July 12th, 12pm-2pm; all levels; $52 for CAM members

Also, my usual summer retreat Hamlet’s Hideaway is cancelled this year. Alas, the castle is under construction (I sound like such a princess!) and my co-retreat-leader Anja is moving to the US briefly, so stay tuned for what comes next…
OOO
If you will be in Paris this summer, be sure to see the Beyond the Streets exhibit I did some writing for while you’re there. I am off to experience it and La Ville Lumière for the first time ever, which means I am away from my laptop and out of my office, refilling my creative tank with travel & art, until June 2nd.
Imagine me as Simone in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.
Though I’ll be back! If you have a project you could use my help on, June is booked up but I have time available in July and August. Come September, things get chaotic again. Hit me up!
Writing
Oh, what have I been writing? Check out this profile of local artist and festival organizer Addie Wuensch, which I wrote for our regional NPR station.
Now for this week’s Friday Focus & Flow writing prompt…
